FRAGILE – a work of art for everyone HANSE-Art
The HANSE Art project of the
27th International Hanse Convention 2007 in Lippstadt
In 2006 the assembly of delegates of the Hanse Convention in Osnabrück unanimously backed the HANSE Art project. With it, a forum for the visual arts was created against the backdrop of the International Hanse Convention.
In Lippstadt HANSE Art is being presented for the very first time. Under the motto “FRAGILE – a work of art for everyone”, artists from 14 Hanse cities representing 6 countries are taking part in the HANSE Art premiere.

The exhibition lasts until the 17th of June 2007.
A catalogue of exhibition is available in the tourist information in the town hall.

Jan Hoet as advisor of the project HANSE-Art
Doesburg – Dr. Jan Hoet, until 2001 director of the S.M.A.K. (municipal museum of contemporary art) in Gent, since 2005 art director of the MARTa museum in the hanseatic city Herford (Germany), is becoming advisor of the project HANSE-Art.
For this he was invited by the project director Marion Steitner and will attend the project the following years. The project is a new accepted component of the International Hanse Convention. All hanseatic cities – they involve more than 100 cities from 15 different countries – will make a locally selection of artists, in order to participate in the new project during the International Hanse Convention of the particular year.
In June 2006 all hanseatic cities have argued for the HANSE-Art project. For the first time the art project will be realised in May 2007 in Lippstadt. Further information are available on http://www.hanse.org/.
Jan Hoet is known because of his cross-boarder art initiatives such as Chambres d’Amis in Gent, Documenta 9 in Kassel or Sonsbeek 9 in Arnheim. As curator he realised exhibitions in the whole world, from Montreal to Lisbon and from Japan to Mexico. Jan Hoet received several awards and honorary titles, among the art award Oost-Vlaanderen and the Goethe medal. He is doctor honoris causa of the University Gent, Chevalier de l’Orde des Arts et des Lettres de la Republique Francaise and was ennobled by the Belgian royal dynasty. The MARTa museum in Herford was designed by the architect Frank Gehry.
